You understand everything — and you don't move

Imagine: you've left the house, and your phone shows 6%. You don't open anything extra, you reply in 2 words instead of 10, you decline a video call. Nothing new, only what is necessary, only enough to make it through. The phone is fine. It is saving the last of its charge.

Now a question: isn't this how you have been living for the past few years?

You already have the knowledge

A person comes to me and says: “I understand everything about my life. I know it's time to change jobs. I know it's time to start my own thing. I know this relationship isn't right for me. I understand everything — and I do nothing. What's wrong with me?”

I have heard this thousands of times, and not once was it about understanding. Any real change — leaving, starting, saying a firm “no” to someone you've been saying “yes” to for years — does not require knowledge. You already have the knowledge. Change requires energy.

Take 2 people with the same understanding of life. One person's energy goes into their goals; the other's leaks away before it reaches the goal. They know the same things. The first one acts. The second one postpones, explains, and then blames themselves for not starting again. The difference between them is not in their heads.

Why it costs more now

Just 10 years ago a person could live in this mode for years, and the world would wait. The job stayed where it was, the market changed slowly, an opportunity missed today came back a year later.

Now the world is changing its rules faster than people can adjust. The energies acting on the world have become stronger, and they amplify what is already in a person. For someone whose energy goes into their work, everything comes together faster than before. For someone whose energy leaks away, the gap grows every month. Putting something off for a year today means falling behind by more than a year.

What life in power-saving mode looks like

This mode looks reasonable, and that is the whole difficulty.

You stop choosing and start pulling your hand back. You agreed so as not to argue. You kept quiet so as not to spend yourself. You took whatever was closest. From the inside it feels like a decision, but there was no decision, there was saving.

You stop hearing yourself. Intuition doesn't go anywhere, you just can't hear it when it's noisy inside: a background of anxiety and 20 unfinished matters spinning in circles.

You stop noticing the big things. Big opportunities don't disappear, they fade. You walk past them and calmly explain: “I don't need this”, “not at my age”, “we're fine as it is”. It sounds like being sensible. It isn't being sensible. It's 6%.

Why rest doesn't help

The first thing that comes to mind: I need a rest. You come back from vacation with new strength, and a week later you are exactly where you were.

It's not about how much strength comes in, but about where it goes. In the background you have things open that you never closed: a conversation from three years ago that you still replay in your head; a resentment that takes strength from you, not from the person you resent; 10 “yeses” said instead of “no”; a task that has been hanging for months. Each of them is an open energy leak channel. Energy is allocated to the task and doesn't come back until the task is closed.

You can fill up again. The energy will go to the same place.

Where to start

This is usually where people start building a system: getting up at 5 a.m., cold showers, new goals, a strict routine. It lasts a week, and it's not about weakness. While the energy leak channels are open, any new effort goes into the same breaches.

You don't start with effort. You start by seeing where it goes. Today, before evening, catch one moment where your strength went to waste. You don't need to change anything or write anything down: just notice it and name it to yourself. While a breach can't be seen, it can't be closed.

You will catch one moment yourself. But you have more than one. There is an expert Energy Audit method that shows the state of your energy system and identifies your main energy leak channels. It is 20 questions and 3 minutes. If you don't take it, that's fine: the step above works on its own too.
